REMABOND Small-Batch Adhesive Investigation

Context

A small-batch REMABOND alternative to SC-2000 was sought for bonding rubber to carbon in a monofin leading edge.

  • The reviewed manufacturer documentation does not identify a separate hardener for SC-BL.

FIXPASTE VC-4 with SC-BL

FIXPASTE VC-4 is the actual two-component repair compound:

  • VC4-A and VC4-B are mixed as the repair material.
  • SC-BL is supplied alongside them as the associated cement.
  • The system is intended to fill damage in rubber components based on NR, SBR, IR, BR or their blends.
  • Small sets include 150 g each of components A and B plus 40 g of SC-BL.
  • Larger sets include 650 g each plus 225 g of SC-BL.

Advice received

The response proposed SC-4000 as the closest modern REMABOND alternative to SC-2000.

It also proposed:

  • SC-BL plus FIXPASTE VC-4 for filling, rebuilding or sculpting rubber;
  • SC-BL alone for thin rubber-to-carbon bonding; and
  • roughening and cleaning both surfaces before applying one or two thin coats of SC-BL.

The response claimed that standalone SC-BL would create a strong, flexible and waterproof rubber-to-carbon bond after 24–72 hours.

The durable conclusion is that SC-4000 is the documented general-purpose REMABOND adhesive, while SC-BL is a small-package cement associated with FIXPASTE VC-4 whose suitability as a standalone rubber-to-carbon adhesive remained unresolved.
